They stared at each other silently. None of them could believe what had just happened. From his corner, the boy looked at them too, taken aback, although he kept making car sounds and dragging the remote on the floor; he had quickly improvised that game as a shelter against silence. That one had been the first slap. The three of them realized that nothing could ever be the same again. Or, even worse, maybe it could.

Se miraron fijamente, en silencio. Ninguno de los dos podía creer lo que había ocurrido. El niño, desde su rincón, los miraba también, desconcertado, aunque seguía haciendo el ruido de un coche y arrastrando el mando de la tele por el suelo; rápidamente había improvisado ese juego como refugio contra el silencio. Aquella había sido la primera bofetada. Los tres sabían que nada podía volver a ser igual. O a lo peor sí.
